Dr. Lucius S. Fekonja

About

With a foundational background in knowledge visualization from the esteemed art academies of Lucerne and Zurich, Switzerland, my journey has seamlessly bridged the realms of art and science. My early career saw me applying these skills to intricate neurosurgical and evolutionary biology projects.

I further refined my academic skills at the Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin, where I worked on the complexity of diffusion magnetic resonance imaging-based fiber bundle dissection in tumor patients as part of my doctorate. This research not only enhanced my scientific perspective but also provided a platform to refine my ability to showcase complex concepts through scientific illustration.

My illustrations translate scientific knowledge into visuals and have found their place in prestigious journals. My proficiency extends across a range of tools including Adobe Creative Cloud, Maya, Cinema 4D, and zBrush, equipping me with versatility in both digital and traditional mediums.

My professional collaborations span a diverse spectrum: from the Evolutionary Biology Department at the University of Basel to the International Neuroscience Institute in Hannover, and notable publishing groups like Droemer Knaur and Thieme. At the Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin's Department of Neurosurgery, I contribute as both an illustrator and a postdoctoral researcher, involved as well in groundbreaking work at the Cluster of Excellence, Matters of Activity.

My research is dedicated to investigate the complex brain networks via MRI data. A significant part of my work focuses on connectome analyses, essential in neuroimage-based neurosurgical planning, developing current technology into translational medicine.
